FlixBus
FlixBus is the world's largest long-distance coach network, with more than 2,500 destinations across 40 countries. Present in France since 2015, it offers low-cost connections between major cities, full onboard services and a fleet of recognisable green coaches.
FlixBus, the benchmark for European long-distance coach travel
Founded in Munich in 2013 by Daniel Krauss, Jochen Engert and André Schwämmlein, FlixBus took advantage of the liberalisation of the German and then European market to become the dominant player in long-distance coach travel. The company expanded to France from 2015, when the "Macron law" opened up regular coach services in France. FlixBus runs a platform model: the company designs the network, timetables, brand and ticketing; trips are operated by local partner carriers running under the FlixBus colours.
A continental network of 2,500 destinations
FlixBus serves more than 2,500 destinations across Europe and worldwide (United States, Turkey, Mexico, Brazil since 2021). In France, the meshed network connects almost every city of more than 100,000 inhabitants, with Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux as major hubs. International lines from Paris open up to London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Berlin, Munich, Prague, Vienna, Barcelona, Rome, Madrid, Zagreb and Lisbon. Average load reaches 75% in peak season.
Onboard services and fleet
All FlixBus coaches come standard with: free Wi-Fi (per-passenger throttling), 220 V and USB power sockets at every seat, toilets, air conditioning, the FlixTV entertainment portal (films, series, audio books streaming without data), reclining seats with footrests. On certain long-distance routes, FlixBus deploys double-deck coaches (Neoplan Skyliner, Setra S 531 DT) with an onboard drinks bar. The fleet includes electric and hybrid coaches on short routes such as Paris-Amiens, and the company is targeting 50% of the network decarbonised by 2030.
FlixBus baggage policy
Every FlixBus ticket includes 1 hand bag (42 × 30 × 18 cm, max 7 kg) and 2 hold bags (67 × 50 × 27 cm, 30 kg in total). A 3rd bag (max 15 kg, standard dimensions) can be added for €5 at the time of booking or up to 48 h before departure. Out-of-format bags (instruments, ski equipment, pushchairs) cost €9 when declared at least 48 h ahead, €15 on the spot subject to availability.
How to find a cheap FlixBus
FlixBus fares start at €4.99 on short lines in France and at €19.99 on long international lines. Early Bird flash sales open 6 months ahead. Students, young people and seniors enjoy dedicated offers. A reusable payment card (Interrail, Busbud, ComparaBUS) can give access to promotional codes. Gopaxo compares FlixBus and its competitors in real time to find the cheapest.
