National Express
National Express is the United Kingdom's leading long-distance coach operator. More than 550 daily routes connect London to Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Edinburgh and hundreds of other cities through 11,000 weekly services.
National Express, champion of the British coach
National Express Coaches is a subsidiary of the Mobico group (formerly National Express Group), also owner of Alsa. Founded in 1972 by the nationalisation of several British regional operators, the company runs a central hub at Birmingham Digbeth and a network of dedicated stations in London (Victoria Coach Station), Manchester and most large cities. Its double-deck coaches, in their white and sky-blue livery, are a familiar sight at British coach stations.
Network: 248 cities and 550 routes
National Express links more than 248 towns and villages, from small rural stops to large cities. The busiest line is London-Manchester with 27 daily departures (raised from 18 to 27 in 2024). London-Birmingham lines now offer 22 direct daily departures. The operator also serves UK airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Manchester Airport, Birmingham Airport) with dedicated Airport Express lines.
Services and comfort
Recent National Express coaches offer free Wi-Fi, USB sockets, air conditioning, toilets, reclining leather seats and a large baggage hold. Standard class is available on every line; a StandardPlus class (front seats, more space) is offered on long-distance routes. The fleet uses Plaxton, Caetano Levante and Futura single- or double-deck coaches.
