What is UP Express?

UP Express, short for Union Pearson Express, is the dedicated rail line connecting downtown Toronto to Pearson International Airport. It opened on 6 June 2015, in time for the Pan American Games, and is operated by Metrolinx, Ontario's regional transit agency. Designed for both air travellers and commuters, it offers a fast, reliable alternative to driving or taking a taxi on one of the busiest corridors in the Greater Toronto Area.

Route and stations

The line runs about 23 km between Union Station, in the heart of the financial district, and the Pearson Airport station. It serves four main stops that make connections to the regional network and the Toronto subway easy.

  • Union Station (downtown Toronto): central terminus, beneath the CN Tower
  • Bloor: connection to TTC subway Line 2 at Dundas West
  • Weston: serving the historic Weston neighbourhood to the west
  • Pearson Airport: station linked to Terminals 1 and 3 by the automated people mover

An additional station, Mount Dennis, opened in late 2025 to prepare for the connection with the future Eglinton Crosstown line.

Journey time, frequency and fleet

The full trip between Union Station and Pearson Airport takes about 25 minutes. Trains run every 15 minutes, seven days a week, from roughly 4:55 am until 1:00 am, making close to 80 round trips a day. The service uses Nippon Sharyo diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains, air-conditioned and fitted with power outlets, luggage racks and onboard Wi-Fi.

Fares and Presto card

Fares are priced in Canadian dollars (CAD). The full Union–Pearson trip costs 12.00 CAD in cash and 9.00 CAD with a Presto card, the region's contactless payment system. Presto also unlocks discounted transfers to GO Transit and the TTC. Lower intermediate fares apply for trips between closer stations.
