About the role
You're joining Gopaxo's platform team to design, evolve and harden the backend that orchestrates our calls to train operators, bus operators, carpooling platforms and airlines. Every search aggregates wildly heterogeneous offers in a few hundred milliseconds — your job is to make that orchestration predictable, observable and performant.
You work across the entire chain: data modelling, internal API design, caching, data pipelines, observability and quality. You also take the lead on more strategic topics: new service architecture, major refactors, technology trade-offs.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve the services that aggregate train, bus, carpooling and plane offers (Node/TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS).
- Technically guide architectural choices, run demanding code reviews and raise the rest of the team's skill level.
- Guarantee the performance, resilience and observability of our production APIs (latency, error rate, incident tracking).
- Identify and address technical debt pragmatically, prioritising by product impact.
- Contribute to cross-cutting topics: security, GDPR, encryption, secrets management, PCI-DSS compliance for partner flows.
Who we're looking for
- At least 5 years of backend development experience on high-traffic systems.
- You master TypeScript or an equivalent strongly-typed language (Go, Kotlin, Java) and can justify your architectural choices.
- You have designed, deployed and operated APIs in production (REST and/or GraphQL).
- You are comfortable with PostgreSQL (indexing, query plans, zero-downtime migrations).
- You can work in uncertain environments and arbitrate between time-to-market, quality and technical debt.
Nice to have
- Experience in the travel / mobility ecosystem.
- Knowledge of search databases (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Meilisearch).
- Experience setting up observability (Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
- Interest in data / machine learning applied to search.
