GoVolta
GoVolta is a Dutch open-access rail operator launched in 2026 and based in Breda. It runs affordable direct international trains, with fares from €19, linking Amsterdam to Berlin and, from 14 December 2026, to Paris via Antwerp and Ghent.
Who is GoVolta?
GoVolta is a young Dutch railway company founded in 2026 and based in Breda, the Netherlands. It operates on an open-access basis, meaning it runs its own international trains in direct competition with incumbent operators and without public subsidy. Nicknamed the easyJet of the railways by the press, GoVolta is built on three simple promises: low prices, a guaranteed seat with every ticket and direct connections with no changes.
Launched in March 2026 with services between Amsterdam, Berlin and Hamburg, the company was founded by Maarten Bastian and Hessel Winkelman. It uses refurbished Belgian-origin I10 carriages hauled by Vectron locomotives, with capacity for around 840 passengers per train.
Network and main routes
Today GoVolta links Amsterdam with Berlin, ramping up towards a near-daily frequency. The Hamburg service operated at launch was withdrawn during the summer of 2026. From 14 December 2026, GoVolta opens its flagship Amsterdam-Paris line, covered in just over 7 hours.
- Amsterdam - Berlin: direct service, around 8 hours, terminating at Berlin-Spandau
- Amsterdam - Paris (from 14 December 2026): just over 7 hours, up to 7 round trips per week
- Paris route stops: Haarlem, The Hague, Rotterdam, Lage Zwaluwe, Roosendaal, Antwerp, Ghent, Arras and Longueau (near Amiens)
Comfort, classes and onboard fares
GoVolta offers two comfort levels: Economy class, with a modern open-plan layout, and Comfort class, which is quieter, with a 2+1 arrangement and more space. The XL Duo Seat option lets you book the seat opposite so you always face forward, with extra legroom. Fares start at €19 and typically sit between €20 and €40 depending on demand and how early you book.
Every ticket includes a reserved seat. Wi-Fi is not available on board and standard bicycles are not accepted. A buffet car offers drinks and light catering during the journey.
Baggage, booking and connections
Each passenger may bring two pieces of cabin luggage free of charge: one larger item of about 55 × 40 × 25 cm and one smaller personal item of about 30 × 20 × 15 cm. For extra baggage, booking in advance is significantly cheaper than buying onboard. Tickets are sold on the official website govolta.com, as well as through resellers such as DB, travel agencies and online ticket suppliers.
