FAQ

Delays, strikes and disruptions

What to do in case of delay, cancellation, strike or disruption: rights, compensation and partner contacts.

What do I do if my train is delayed?

Go to the station at the scheduled times: in case of delay, travellers are usually redirected to the next train. Keep your ticket and a delay receipt (station display, conductor's attestation) for any later compensation request.

Can I get compensation for a delay?

Yes, under conditions. In France, the SNCF Punctuality Guarantee compensates from 30 minutes of delay on TGV INOUI and Intercités (25% of the price between 30 min and 2 h, 50% beyond 2 h, 75% from 3 h). European regulation EC 1371/2007 applies on long international trips. The request is made directly with the company, like any refund.

How am I informed of a strike?

Companies are required to communicate the planned transport schedule 24 to 48 h before a strike. You usually receive an e-mail or SMS from the partner who sold you the ticket as soon as a disruption affects your trip.

My train is cancelled, what happens?

In case of cancellation, the company offers either a free exchange on another train or a full refund of your ticket. These steps are taken with the partner who issued the ticket, from your customer account or its support service.

Who do I contact in case of a disruption?

Contact first the partner who sold the ticket (their details are in the order confirmation e-mail) for any administrative question (exchange, refund). For real-time information, the rail company's app remains the most reliable source.

Can I get a refund in case of a strike?

Yes, if your train is cancelled or significantly delayed due to a strike, you're entitled to a full refund or a free exchange. Some companies relax their conditions (free exchange across the entire network, for example) during strike periods.

How do I track my train in real time?

The official company app (SNCF Connect, Trenitalia, DB Navigator, Renfe, etc.) offers real-time tracking of departures and arrivals. You can also check the displays at the station or rail information sites.
